Terms of Service
ONDAS is a free screenwriting editor. You keep everything you write. We ask only that you use the service as it was intended: to write. These terms describe what ONDAS is, what you are permitted to do with it, what we are not responsible for, and what happens if something goes wrong. They are written to be read, not buried.
Welcome to ONDAS
Introduction
Thank you for using ONDAS. This is a free, browser-based screenwriting editor — built by a screenwriter who wanted a tool that stayed out of the way and let him write. There are no subscription fees, no advertisements, and no monetisation of your work. The service exists because writing should not be gated by cost. We are glad you are here.
What ONDAS Is
ONDAS gives you a clean, distraction-free environment to write screenplays in Fountain syntax. It includes features like focus mode, beat board, margin notes, revision colour-coding, and export to PDF, Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain, and plain text. You can use it without an account, entirely in your browser, with nothing leaving your device unless you choose to enable cloud sync. We provide documentation and updates through the editor itself and, for those who opt in, by email.
Your Service Provider
ONDAS is operated by Macy Veil. The service may in the future operate under a studio or company name, but for now it is an independent project. References to “ONDAS,” “we,” “us,” and “our” in these terms refer to Macy Veil and any future entity operating the service. References to “you” refer to any person accessing or using the service. If you ever need to reach us directly, you can at legal.ondas@proton.me.
Applicable Terms
These Terms of Service, together with our Privacy Policy, make up the full agreement between you and Macy Veil. By using the service, you accept both documents in their entirety. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use ONDAS.
Acceptance of Terms
By opening ONDAS, whether or not you create an account, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you are using ONDAS on behalf of a third party or an organisation, you represent that you have the authority to bind that party to these terms.
These terms apply to all modes of use: the local (account-free writing environment), and the registered account experience with (or without) cloud synchronisation. Where terms apply specifically to one mode, that distinction is noted.
If you do not agree to these terms, do not use ONDAS. You are always free to close the tab.
The Service
ONDAS is a browser-based screenwriting editor. It provides a formatting environment for scripts written in Fountain syntax, with optional features including focus mode, beat board, margin notes, revision colour-coding, and export to PDF, Final Draft (.fdx), Fountain, and plain text. The service is provided free of charge.
ONDAS is currently in early access. Features may change, be added, or be removed without prior notice. We will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant changes to registered users, but the service is provided as a work in progress and should be treated as such.
Access to ONDAS requires a compatible web browser. Chrome, Brave, and Safari are supported. ONDAS does not guarantee compatibility with all browsers or browser versions, and makes no warranty of uninterrupted availability.
Your Account
Account creation is optional. You may use ONDAS in its full local capacity without registering. Account creation enables cloud synchronisation across devices and, if you separately opt in, newsletter correspondence.
To create an account, you must provide a valid email address or authenticate via Google OAuth or Apple Sign-In. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You agree to provide accurate information at account creation and to keep that information current. You may not create an account on behalf of another person without their consent. You may not create more than one account for the purpose of circumventing any restriction or policy.
Account creation is restricted to users who meet the applicable age of digital consent in their jurisdiction. In the United States, this means users must be at least 13 years of age. In the European Economic Area and United Kingdom, the applicable minimum is 16, subject to member state variation with a floor of 13. ONDAS collects your date of birth at account creation and uses it to verify eligibility. Users who do not meet the applicable age threshold are automatically blocked from completing account creation and directed to use the Skip option instead, which requires no personal information and involves no data collection. See our Privacy Policy for further detail.
You may delete your account at any time from the settings panel. Deletion is permanent. All cloud-stored scripts associated with your account will be erased and cannot be recovered. Scripts saved locally on your device are not affected by account deletion and remain under your exclusive control.
Your Content
You retain full ownership of everything you write in ONDAS. Scripts, notes, outlines, and all other content you create using the service belong to you. ONDAS does not claim any licence, ownership interest, or right of use over your creative work.
By enabling cloud synchronisation, you grant ONDAS a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free technical licence to store and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the synchronisation feature. This licence is strictly operational. It does not permit ONDAS to read, analyse, share, sell, or otherwise use the content of your scripts for any purpose beyond making them available to you across your devices.
You are solely responsible for the content you create and store using ONDAS. You represent that you have all rights necessary to use that content in connection with the service, and that doing so does not infringe the intellectual property or other rights of any third party.
We strongly recommend maintaining your own backups of your work. ONDAS is not responsible for the loss of locally stored scripts due to browser data clearing, device failure, or any other circumstance outside our systems.
Acceptable Use
ONDAS is a writing tool. Use it to write.
You agree not to use ONDAS for any purpose that is unlawful, harmful, or prohibited by these terms. Specifically, you agree not to:
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service, its infrastructure, or another user’s account or data.
- Introduce malicious code, scripts, or any software designed to disrupt, damage, or interfere with the service or its underlying systems.
- Use the service to store, transmit, or distribute content that is illegal under applicable law, including content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of ONDAS, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
- Use automated means to access, scrape, or interact with the service in a manner that places unreasonable load on its infrastructure.
- Impersonate ONDAS, its author, or any other person in connection with the service.
ONDAS reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, at its sole discretion and without prior notice where the circumstances require it.
Intellectual Property
ONDAS, including its interface, design, typography, shortcut system, codebase, and all non-user-generated elements, is the intellectual property of its author, Macy Veil. All rights are reserved.
Nothing in these terms grants you any right to use the ONDAS name, logo, or visual identity in any context other than to refer to the service itself. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative works based on ONDAS or its interface without express written permission.
ONDAS is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or in any way connected to Final Draft, Inc., WriterSolo, or any other third-party software product referenced in its marketing materials. All third-party product names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Fountain is an open plain-text markup language for screenwriting. ONDAS uses Fountain syntax as a formatting standard. Use of Fountain does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by its creators.
Availability & Modifications
ONDAS is provided on an “as available” basis. We do not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted access to the service. Maintenance, updates, infrastructure issues, or circumstances beyond our control may result in temporary or extended unavailability.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. For changes that substantially affect the core writing functionality or the availability of cloud-stored data, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users in advance.
In the event of service discontinuation, we will provide registered users with a reasonable period of notice and the ability to export their cloud-stored scripts before access is terminated.
Third-Party Services
ONDAS integrates with third-party services to support specific features. These integrations are subject to the terms and privacy policies of those providers, which operate independently of ONDAS.
Firebase (Google LLC) provides account authentication and optional encrypted cloud storage. By creating an account, you acknowledge that your authentication data is processed by Firebase under Google’s terms of service and applicable data protection frameworks.
Supabase manages newsletter subscriber records for users who have explicitly opted in. Supabase does not receive access to your scripts or account credentials.
Patreon processes voluntary membership contributions made in support of ONDAS. Contributions are governed by Patreon’s own terms and privacy policy. ONDAS does not store or access payment information of any kind.
Voluntary contributions are non-obligatory and do not create, imply, or constitute a contractual relationship between the contributor and ONDAS beyond what is stated on the ONDAS Patreon page. They do not entitle the contributor to any service, feature, priority, or benefit beyond what ONDAS already provides freely to all users.
Large-scale contributions are governed by the ONDAS Foundation page and the Contribution Agreement described there.
Refunds for Patreon contributions are governed exclusively by Patreon’s refund policy. ONDAS does not process payments directly and cannot initiate, reverse, or guarantee the outcome of any refund request. For refund enquiries, contact Patreon support directly through their platform. If you require assistance navigating a dispute, you may also reach us at reply.ondas@gmail.com and we will do what we reasonably can to help.
ONDAS is not responsible for the availability, conduct, or policies of any third-party service. Links or references to third-party platforms do not constitute endorsement.
Disclaimer of Warranties
ONDAS is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ONDAS and its author disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or free of harmful components. We do not warrant that any data you store through ONDAS will be retained indefinitely or recovered in the event of loss.
You use ONDAS at your own risk. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the service rests with you. Keep backups of your work.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ONDAS and its author shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or in connection with your use of the service. This includes, without limitation, loss of scripts, data corruption, loss of revenue, loss of creative work, or service interruption, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these terms or the service, regardless of the form of action, shall not exceed the total amount you have paid to ONDAS in the twelve months preceding the claim. Because ONDAS is free, this amount is, in most cases, zero.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.
Third-Party Liability
ONDAS relies on external infrastructure providers to deliver certain features. When a failure, loss, or disruption originates within those systems, responsibility lies with the provider, not with ONDAS.
Specifically, ONDAS is not liable for any loss of data, corruption of scripts, authentication failures, synchronisation errors, or service interruptions caused by or attributable to Firebase (Google LLC), Supabase, Patreon, or any other third-party service integrated with ONDAS. These providers operate their own infrastructure, under their own terms and service level commitments, entirely outside ONDAS’s control.
If your cloud-stored scripts are lost or corrupted due to a failure in Firebase’s infrastructure, your recourse is with Google under Firebase’s Terms of Service. If a contribution is processed incorrectly or a payment dispute arises, your recourse is with Patreon under Patreon’s Terms. ONDAS has no ability to intervene in, reverse, or compensate for failures that occur within systems it does not operate.
This section does not limit any rights you may have directly against those providers under applicable law. It clarifies only that ONDAS is not a party to those relationships and cannot be held accountable for their conduct.
ONDAS is not responsible for any interruption, degradation, or loss of data resulting from events outside its reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, infrastructure failures, force majeure events, or the enforcement of Firebase’s free-tier service limits. Cloud storage provided through ONDAS operates within Firebase’s free plan, which is subject to usage thresholds and quotas set and revised solely by Google. If those limits are reached or if Firebase modifies or discontinues its free-tier offering, service availability may be affected without prior notice from ONDAS. Cloud synchronisation is a convenience, not a guarantee.
The clearest protection against data loss remains the same regardless of who is at fault: keep local backups of your work. ONDAS stores scripts on your device by default.
Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms of Service at any time. Material changes will be communicated via a prominent notice displayed within the editor to all users — including those writing without an account — at least fourteen days before taking effect. Users subscribed to the newsletter will also receive notification by email.
Your continued use of ONDAS after any amendment constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you may delete your account and stop using the service.
The most current version of these terms will always be available at this address. Last revised: June 3, 2026.
Governing Law
These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil, with disputes subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the State of São Paulo, without regard to conflict of law principles. If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms or the service that cannot be resolved informally by contacting us at legal.ondas@proton.me may be submitted to the competent courts of the State of São Paulo. ONDAS will always attempt to resolve disputes in good faith before any formal proceeding.
If you are accessing ONDAS from within the European Union, you retain the right to bring a claim before the courts of your country of residence, in accordance with applicable EU consumer protection law.
